Disney Cartoon Camera

In Early 2017, “Cartoon Camera“, a documentary that I pitched to Disney Feature Animation a few years ago, was completed and shown in the Studio Main Theater on the Disney Studio Lot. It was exciting to share a project that I wrote and produced with the Disney folks.

Originally, my notion was to explore the amazing piece of technology that is Walt Disney’s Multiplane Camera and how it was used from the 1930s to the 1980s.  As we fleshed out the story, the doc expanded to include cartoon camera techniques after the multiplane, including CG and motion capture and the notion that even in a digital space, there is still a “camera”

This is the original camera stand, altered little over the years, that was used to shoot SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARVES (1937) and how it looks today.  It’s an impressive piece of cinematic history!

The documentary is in festivals now and was an official entry in the Toronto International Short Film Festival (TISFF), The Newport Beach Film Festival and  The Cayman Island International Film Festival!

Here’s a sneak peak!
